Five motorists in one day caught driving at speeds of up to 95 mph on M55

Lancashire Road Police have caught five motorists speeding on the M55 today (January 31).
The first vehicle was stopped by police after it was spotted travelling at excessive speed through the road works on the M55.

Hide AdNarrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place along a short stretch of the M55 where a new junction (junction 2) is being constructed as part of Lancashire County Council’s Preston Western Distributor road project.
The driver of the Nissan was issued with a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) for the offence.
A second vehicle, a transit van, was also stopped by police after speeding through the roadworks.
The driver, who already had nine penalty points for speeding, has been summoned to court.

Hide AdThey also face disqualification, a penalty which may result in them losing their job, say Lancashire Police.
A short time later, a third motorist driving a Ford Focus was issued with a TOR after overtaking an unmarked police car at 95mph as they travelled towards Blackpool.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Driver of this Focus issued with a TOR after overtaking the unmarked car at 95mph on the M55 towards Blackpool.
"Poor weather conditions, reduced visibility and excess speed is a collision waiting to happen."

Hide AdThe fourth motorist caught by police was driving at 90mph through the roadworks.
The driver has been summoned to court due to the speed detected.
A fifth driver later failed to see the 50mph speed restriction signs and the marked police BMW 3-Series behind them.
They have been reported as a result.
