Elderly woman shaken by Fleetwood bag theft

An elderly woman was left “devastated’ after her handbag was snatched by a young thief.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, which happened on London Street in Fleetwood, close to the Royal Bank of Scotland, shortly after midday today.

The bag, containing cash and a mobile phone, was snatched from the basket of the woman’s husband’s mobility scooter.

The couple were not hurt in the incident but have been left shaken, officers have said.

PC Adam Weaver said: “This has left the lady devastated at the loss of her handbag and contents.

“I would appeal for anybody with information relating to this theft to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“It was a busy time of day and I am hoping there will be witnesses to this incident.”

The offender is described as a young white male, of slim build, wearing a blue hooded jacket pulled up over his head.

He ran from the area onto Preston Street in the direction of Blakiston Street.
