A prolific thief who has been convicted 85 times has been banned from more than 50 shops across the Fylde coast.

Shoplifter Christine McDonald was made the subject of a two year criminal anti-social behaviour order (CRASBO) by Blackpool magistrates.

The order bans her from entering 19 outlets in Fleetwood, including the town’s Freeport and market, plus 40 outlets in Thornton and Cleveleys.

That includes charity shops such as the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

The order was made after McDonald, a 49-year-old mother, of Harris Street, Fleetwood, admitted three offences of stealing cleaning products and sweets from Super News and Booze and an offence of taking goods from Iceland, both in Fleetwood.

Mc Donald was also sentenced to 12 weeks behind bars by the court.

Jenny Prendergast, prosecuting, said: “Officers have got evidence to show she is a prolific thief and her behaviour in stores causes stress to staff, who have to eject her, and customers.

“A CRASBO would give police a sanction to arrest her if she goes into any of the shops. It may act as a deterrent to her.” McDonald had a record of 85 previous offences for theft and similar crimes.

Paul Robinson, defending, said: “She accepts the need for a CRASBO. It will go to redress the mischief she has caused in these shops.

“She has struggled for a significant number of years with a drug problem. She has detoxed while in custody and assessed her situation. She is determined to put her old life behind her.”
