Fleetwood’s Memorial Park is hosting a LightCycles and LumiDogs creative workshop this Saturday.

Ahead of the world famous Blackpool Illuminations, residents are invited to light up their two-wheeled and four-legged friends at a free creative workshop with professional artists, from 1pm to 4pm.

And participants this weekend can then take their glowing machines to another big event, the annual Ride the Lights in Blackpool, next Tuesday, August 26.

Every year Ride the Lights sees thousands of two wheeling enthusiasts take to the promenade for a special preview of the illuminations, when traffic isn’t allowed and people can cycle in safety.

This year a series of workshops by arts project group LeftCoast, including the one in Fleewood, is providing the chance to customise bikes with lights and reflectors, allowing participants to create an illuminated bike that is worthy of appearing in the
illuminations itself.

Everyone who attends this weekend’s workshop will be invited to form an en-masse Light Cycles group that will be the shining star of the Ride the Lights event. They will also be entered into a competition for the best decorated bike for the chance to win bicycle themed prizes.

Dog owners are also invited to get involved by bringing their pet pooch along to the park on Saturday for a unique opportunity to illuminate their dogs and put them
centre stage.

These phosphorescent pooches can then take part in another fun event, the
Illuminated Doggie Fashion Parade on the promenade on September 20, and will have the chance to be crowned LumiDogs Champion 2014 in a special ceremony on the night.

A Wyre Council spokesman said: “The Memorial Park’s colourful natural setting should provide inspiration to get your creative juices flowing.”
