A Fleetwood toy designer will fly to Malibu to shoot a swimwear calendar, after winning a national beauty contest.
Hazel Fox, 24, who works as head of the UK design department at Halsall Toys International – the home of Barbie, Peppa Pig and Hello Kitty Toys to name just a few –was crowned overall winner of the UK Bikini SquadFinals, held in Norwich.
She was named Miss January by organiser Kerri Parker, who runs the Kerri Parker Academy model training school.
Hazel triumphed over hundreds of other entrants to claim the crown, and will join 11 other girls on a dream trip to California in October, including a visit to Los Angeles and Hollywood.
She said: “We’re going out for a week and we get to do everything. There’s lots of work and photoshoots, and the chance to take part in the international final of the bikini competition, as well as the chance to do some sightseeing.”
Hazel will appear on the cover of a UK calendar after winning the competition, which involved a full day of photo shoots, interviews and a grand final which included a two-hour non-stop runway show.
Five judges sat on a panel, including Miss England 2010 Jessica Linley.
Hazel, from Cleveleys, said: “It was incredibly nerve wracking walking in front of a huge crowd in swimwear, but it was worth it. The nerves seemed to turn to sheer excitement.”
It’s a far cry from the day job at Fleetwood’s famous toy factory where she has a top design job. She said: “We design products, packaging, advertising and catalogue pages for some really big brands like Barbie and Hello Kitty.”
