Carolyn Bevan, 54,married her partner of 27 years David McDermott, 52, at a special ceremony at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

The heartbroken husband of a woman who died less than 48 hours after they married has paid tribute to his “amazing” wife.

cxDoctors diagnosed Carolyn McDermott’s terminal brain tumour a week ago, prompting her and her new husband, David McDermott, to plan their nuptials.

The couple, who had been together for 27 years, got married on Friday at Blackpool Victoria Hospital’s chapel.

David said Carolyn, known as Lyn, was “ecstatic” following the ceremony, which was attended by family and friends.

David, 51, said: “Photographs don’t lie, you can see on her face how happy she was.

“The wedding meant everything to her.

“You look at those pictures and you can’t believe it.

“It was as if she was saving everything for that day.”

Lyn started getting dizzy spells and went for tests around a month ago.

On August 26 she was unable to get up from her bed and was rushed to hospital.

David said Lyn, 54, appeared to be OK on the night of their wedding, but the following day she looked tired and was off her food.

Her blood pressure started to drop, and doctors later said they had done as much as they could for her.

She died surrounded by her family.

David, a painter and decorator, of Chatsworth Avenue, Fleetwood, said: “The one thing I must stress more than anything is how brave she was through this whole thing.

“She’s been absolutely amazing.

“Lyn was always brilliant.

“She got pleasure out of doing things for others.”

Lyn, a carer, leaves five children and seven grandchildren, whom she doted on.
