Waste collection services in Wyre have been praised after seeing a rise in customer satisfaction.

Wyre Council has praised figures for last year that show complaints to Veolia, the company that provides household bin collections on its behalf, were down while compliments were up.

The figures also show an average of 45 bins were missed each month for the 2013/14 year – roughly 0.01 per cent of the total monthly collections.

Other achievements recognised by the council include a 94 per cent customer satisfaction rate and a 2.5 per cent fall in workforce sickness.

Coun Vivien Taylor, cabinet member for waste at Wyre Council, said: “Once again the annual report is a very positive one and we’re delighted that our residents continue to receive such an excellent service from Veolia.

“We’re also encouraged to learn that sickness rates, accidents and near misses have all fallen.

“Moving forward there are a few things we need to address, such as the amount of recyclables that are still being put into general waste, but plans are in place to step up education and awareness this year.

“Watch this space.”

Damien Bigley, Veolia’s Wyre contract manager, said: “This performance is a direct result of the hard work and professionalism of our crews and the company’s commitment to health and safety.”
