Action taken on derelict building
Orient building in Fleetwood
TOWN hall bosses say they are determined to end danger at a derelict building.
There were arson incidents at the Orient Building on Station Road, Fleetwood at the weekend, potentially putting those who had entered the building at risk.
Building owner Andrew Hayhurst has so far failed in his attempts to make the building secure and now Wyre Council is increasing the pressure to find a solution.
A council spokeswoman said: “We have issued a notice under the Local Government Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1982, requiring the owner of the building to secure access points being used by trespassers.
“We are working with the owner to ensure that this work is carried out imminently. However, if the notice is not complied with, the council may carry out the required work at the owner’s cost.”
Mr Hayhurst is hoping to get planning permission to convert the building for use by Fleetwood Nautical Campus.
Other planning ideas have been put forward in the past but have been knocked back by council bosses.
