Fleetwood Town Council hope its £3,000 investment in a new live webcam installed at The Mount can provide a tourism boost for the town.

Webcams are proving popular at seaside locations across the country, helping potential visitors gain a prominent view of the town and check the weather.

Residents and visitors alike can log on to check out the view.

The Town Council funded the installation of the state-of-the-art camera, with IT support from Wyre Council and Jane Littlewood, who runs the Visit Fleetwood website.

Perched high on The Mount, the camera offers stunning seafront views, showing the Marine Hall and gardens, the leisure complex and views of Morecambe Bay.

The live images stream into the authority’s website – refreshing and changing position from left to right every few seconds – which is packed with more information about the council and town.

Coun Terry Rogers, chairman of Fleetwood Town Council, said: “We regard this as an excellent investment which we believe can give Fleetwood’s tourism a genuine boost, which in turn attracts business and investment.

“This webcam is a perfect tool for giving the world a window into Fleetwood.

“When they can see how nice it is from their armchair at home, I am sure they’d want to visit this town. Although this was a Town Council initiative, we have worked well with other partners on it.”
