Mike Kirby, director of corporate commissioning, said plans are guided by three key factors -the increase in traffic, the increase in extreme weather conditions and the impact of reduced funding. He said: “We’ve started to move from a worst first approach to a more preventative approach.”

As part of the surface dressing programme for the county’s A, B and C roads £10,225 will be spent on Back Lane in Fylde West on the section from Holybush Farm to Weeton Road. In Wyre the carriageway on School Lane will be resurfaced from Damside to Smallwood Hey Road at a cost of £ 71,253.

Just over £1m is being spent on rural unclassified roads. Schemes include £119,164 in Bradshaw Lane in Fylde West retreading the route from the M55 bridge to the A585 Fleetwood Road and £18,012 surface dressing Backsands Lane from the A588 to Damside, Wyre. Other projects include £21,744 retreading Horse Park Lane from Garstang Road to Lancaster Road.

The footways programme lists eight Wyre projects and three Fylde projects, including £49,140 resurfacing Lytham’s Stanley Road footway and £62,961 resurfacing Scafell Road in St Annes North.
