A Wyre musician is hoping to lift the spirits of locals by setting up his very own choir.

Tony Brindle-Wills is aiming to keep Poulton’s body and soul in tune with his plans for the town’s first people’s choir.

Tony, 40, of Hayfield Avenue, believes by encouraging people to sing will improve their health and breathe life into their social diary.

He said: “The idea came about during discussions with fellow musicians, we realised there was not much available for people wanting to become involved with music in Poulton.

“And that isn’t necessarily people who play instruments or are naturally talented, but those who want to enjoy themselves and lift their spirits.”

So far around 20 people have signed up for the choir, which will rehearse at Poulton Methodist Church on Queensway, every Wednesday.

Tony said: “We thought we would start in the run up to Christmas because that way we can have some fun with Christmas carols.

“But I would like to continue throughout the year, perhaps to perform at the annual Poulton Gala.”

Last year, the Government announced £40m of funding in the National Singing Programme to get every primary school pupil singing regularly. And the charity Heart Research UK have highlighted the health benefits of singing.

The choir’s first rehearsal will take place on October 19 from 7.30pm to 9pm. For information contact Tony via e-mail at: tonybrindle-wills@hotmail.co.uk or on (01253) 893052.
