They are nine of Blackpool and the Fylde’s oldest places to stay and some have been around since the 1700s. Did you know that the Metropole Hotel is the only seaward side hotel in Blackpool? Or that the Norbreck Castle Hotel started out as a place for lavish, private parties? The pictures are contrasted with scenes from how they look today. The Clifton Hotel, as it was, in Talbot Square during the 1950s and how it looks today as Forshaw's Hotel. The original hotel on the site was one of four of the oldest inns in Blackpool dating from the 1780s. 4. Blackpool's Oldest Hotels
The Cliff's Hotel on Queens Promenade was built in 1921. It is Baroque style and constructed of red brick and yellow terracotta. The building was extended in the mid 1930s and an underground car park was added. The Savoy Hotel is pictured at the top during the First World War and how it looks today. North of Gynn Square, the terracotta hotel was build around the turn of the 20th Century and the architect was T.G. Lumb. It opened in 1915 and the hotel's sun lounge, in Hathern's cream faience, was added in 1935 by Lumb and Walton Photo: National World
6. Blackpool's Oldest Hotels
Fleetwood's North Euston Hotel was built between 1840 and 1841 and was designed by Decimus Burton. It's unusual curved structure is what it is well-known for and is a Grade II listed building by English Heritage.
