RESIDENTS of Fleetwood will have a chance to comment on the latest proposals for the town's masterplan following a U-turn by Wyre Council.
The plans are going on public display at Fleetwood Library and the Marine Hall later this month.
Initially, Wyre Council had not planned on organising another round of public consultation, but has changed its mind following talks with Fleetwood Ac
tion Group.
The updated version of the plan, which has incorporated changes made since the recent public consultation, will give residents an opportunity to see the most recent ideas and changes to the proposals.
They will also have the chance to give their own views on the new-look plans at the same time.
Wyre Council leader Coun Russell Forsyth said: "The consultation process for the masterplan is definitely ongoing and we feel this will be an excellent opportunity to share the most up-to-date version of the proposals with the public and to hear their views.
"There are some exciting recent developments within the plan, not least the ideas to boost the town's fish processing industry in the South Docks."
The displays, which are planned to run throughout September, will be the first chance for local people to see the latest version of the masterplan since the initial public consultation was completed last year.
Fleetwood Action Group chairman Tom Norton said: "Initially, Wyre Council was not going out with the revised plans for consultation. As a result of discussions between Wyre Council and Fleetwood Action Group, the plans will now go on display. The people of Fleetwood should make every effort to see the plans and make their comments known to the council.""
Changes made to the masterplan, as a result of residents' comments in the consultation, include the removal of proposals to build new homes on the town's pitch and putt course at the waterfront, which was opposed by many residents.
The latest version of the masterplan, meanwhile, will also include developments in proposals for a new fish park in the South Docks area of the town.
The masterplan has been launched by Wyre Council to help boost future economic prospects for Fleetwood, with Manchester-based firm King Sturge acting as consultant for the project. The displays are being staged as a result of discussions between Wyre Council and Fleetwood Action Group.
Final running dates for the displays will be announced shortly.
