TRAMS, historic buses, classic cars, model trains, but there was only way to travel around Fleetwood last Sunday…by foot.
Around 50,000 visitors from around the country flooded into the town for the 24th annual Tram Sunday which has been hailed as a “Phenomenal success!” by events chairman Keith Yates.

“The feedback from visitors, exhibitors and residents was extremely positive, it was the friendliest festival I had ever known and there was real sense of community.”

The event, which costs over £10,000 to stage, played host to over 300 exhibitors who lined the streets from the North Euston Hotel through to Ash Street. Visitors were treated to a dazzling display of vintage transportation.

“The highlight for me was travelling along the prom on the steam powered bus” said Wyre Mayor Coun Gordon McCann.

He added: “It was a brilliant day for Fleetwood, there was so much on offer to visitors and it was testimony to the hard work so many local residents put into organising it each year.”

The mayor was among just some of civil dignitaries who led a procession through Lord Street to officially open the day. They strode amongst gleaming vintage cars as well as a host of stalls and attractions that filled the town centre.

This year’s ban on drinking outdoors has been praised with creating a family-friendly atmosphere.

Chairman Mr Yates said: “There was far less tension this year which meant we saw far more families attending then in previous years, one couple came to me and said that they brought there children along with them, something they wouldn’t have done in the past.

“Visitor numbers looked like they were up this year, this could be because of the cancellation of the Royal Lancashire Show or people felt more comfortable with the drinks ban in place, but from the bus where I was standing it looked like Wembley Stadium!”
