Slow down before someone is killed

SLOW down the traffic - or children could be killled!
That is the message from Fleetwood Sports College where staff and governors are worried about the 40 mph speed limit on busy Broadway.
The high school argues that it is the only school in Lancashire whose gates open directly onto a road with such a high speed limit.
The campaigners want Broadway to change to a 30 mph restriction - possibly all the way to Cleveleys.
They have contacted road authority Lancashire County Council about their concerns.
Governor Terry Godfrey said: "It isn't right that right outside the gates of school there is traffic flying past at 40 miles per hour.
"We are hoping to get that changed for the safety of all our pupils."
And Shaun MacNeill, a school deputy head, said: "We do have a crossing outside the school but it one which has an automated timer.
"Sometimes it can be a full two minutes before the light changes. That means that some children try and nip across instead of waiting.
"If the traffic is that fast, their lives could be at risk."
Mr MacNeill believes the speed limit to be an anomaly from the past that should have been changed years ago.
The school is looking at three possible solutions. The most costly option setting up a variable speed in which an electric road sign flashes a 30 mph warning at school times only, and the road revert back to 40 at other times.
Another is to make the road 30mph between the Strand traffic lights and Braodway roundabout.
The third is to set up a uniform 30 limit between the roundabout all the way to Cleveleys.
