Sandbanked Trawler Set To Be Freed Up
A TRAWLER stuck on the notorious Tiger's Tail sandbank just off Fleetwood was expected to be freed up on the forthcoming tide this afternoon.
By 1.30pm today the 80ft Irish beam trawler Marie Jacob was joined by the tug Seaport Alfa for safety support in readiness for her coming off the bank.
The trawler, a regular visitor to the port, ran aground at 2am this morning.
The Fleetwood inshore lifeboat was called out 5.45am but in the end was not needed as the crew were able to walk across the mudbanks.
An Associated British Ports spokesman said: " She should be freed up by this coming tide and we don't foresee any real problems."
The Tiger's Tail is well known in Fleetwood for catching vessels coming in and out of Fleetwood and six years ago Spanish trawler Erimo ended up having to be cut up after falling onto her side.
That scenario was descibed as "highly unlikely" in the case of Marie Jacob.
