POLICE have sent out a warning to Poulton residents after a doorstep caller tried to dupe a pensioner.
The man pretended to be from BT when he called at a home in Highcross Road last Wednesday and was reluctant to leave when the householder wouldn't let him in.

He then tried at another home where he was turned away.

One of the potential victims called BT to discover they had no-one in the area.

The man was described as Asian, in his late 20s or early 30s and about 5ft 6ins tall.

A police spokeswoman said: "People should always ask for official identity from unknown callers and be ready to make a phone call to verify that they are genuine."

Later the same day there was a burglary in nearby Carr Road.

While the occupant was in the front garden, someone sneaked in and took a handbag, coin purse and wallet from a bedroom.

The haul, including cash was worth about £130.
