FOOD chain McDonald's will not re-apply for a late licence in Fleetwood following their unsuccessful planning application last month.
The news has delighted campaigners who argued the late hours would cause disruption and who feared the company would try again.

Residents in nearby houses and apartments had opposed plans by the company to open until 2am from Thursday to Saturday,
and midnight for the rest of the week.

Wyre planners backed them after hearing their concerns and refused the application.

Resident Ron Sowden, of Seaview Way, said of the latest news: "People around here will be delighted to hear this news.

"I think I can speak for most residents when I say we simply did not want the extra disruption the later hours was likely to bring."

Coun Mark Hamer, who also raised concerns about the issue, said: "McDonald's have clearly responded to the views of local people."

A McDonald's spokesman said: "In response to increasing customer demand we now trade a large proportion of our restaurants for longer, indeed many trade 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

"When we extend these hours in more residential areas we recognise that we have an even greater responsibility to ensure that we do this with the support of the local community.

"The objections, submitted by the local residents in this case has led us to review our application.

"At this time we have no plans to continue to progress this application and will instead be happy to meet the small number of people who voiced concerns so that we can resolve any concerns they may have."
