IDEAS to regenerate Fleetwood town centre are being considered as part of the Masterplan.
One proposal is to link Lord Street to the town’s promenade by making one or more of the key roads off the high street more attractive, and linked by new signs.

Jim Corry, Wyre chief executive, said: “It is fair to say Lord Street is just a bit too far away from the promenade, in some respects, but efforts could be made to link them.

“If one of the main link roads of Lord Street was made more appealing to visitors, they would be more inclined to take a stroll to the seafront directly from the town centre.”

But a key part of bringing better shops to Lord Street was to promote new job opportunities, such as the developments taking place at the nearby Hillhouse site in Thornton.

Recently plans for a £600m power station at Thornton were revealed, bringing with it new employment possibilities.

Wyre leader Coun Russ Forsyth said: “New jobs will be crucial, but it will be vital that the Fleetwood to Poulton rail link is developed as well – and that is another key area we are looking at.”
