WYRE Council has explained why the Civic Centre at Poulton was closed on Tuesday afternoon.
The council said it was forced to shut the centre after a power failure was caused by a blown fuse to the building's main incoming board.
The authority's telephone and computer system, including the website, were affected for approximately five hours.
A spokesman said: "Some problems were identified with the recorded message on the main switchboard number, but this was rectified as quickly as possible. Normal service was resumed by 4.45pm."
