FROM a fancy dress pub crawl to a school rock concert - Fleetwood's Festive Lights Committee are all set to banish the festive darkness this year.
The committee are hopeful they can raise enough cash to ensure that Fleetwood will have a fabulous Ch
ristmas lights display this year, unlike the last two years when there wasn't enough cash to pay for it.
They have just staged raised a fantastic £963 from their sponsored pub crawl in Fleetwood, which saw the collectors dressed as Mother Christmas, elves, fairies and even a walking Christmas present!
Now another big event is being held this Friday night - a charity rock concert at Fleetwood Sports College.
Popular teenage rock band Velocity and acclaimed group Dark Horse have offered to give their time free of charge, and the school have offered the hall free as well.
The gig starts at 7pm and will continue until 10pm.
Tickets cost £3 and are now available from Fleetwood Sports College.
The Festive Light Committee are also making plans for a Hallowe'en event at the end of the month.
Festive Lights committee member Councillor Lorraine Beavers said: "Our pub crawl was a huge success and lots of fun, thanks to the generosity of Fleetwood people.
"We would like to thank all the pubs who helped us, particularly the Savoy Hotel, Fleetwood Highbury Club and the Fleetwood Arms for their generous donations.
"Now we hope this week's concert can be as successsful, and maybe even become an annual event."
The Committee has set itself a tough fund-raising target of £9,000 , in addition to the £3,000 already assured from Wyre Council.
With business pledges of £3,000, and additional money acquired from the fund-raisers, it is hoped that there will be enough cash to pay for the lights and the electricity used this year.
