A BIG party is being held on Fleetwood's West View estate next week for the opening of a new park.
The West View People's Park is a £40,000 recreation area on Martindale Avenue which has been transformed from a piece of untidy wasteland.

Among those attending the official opening on July 30 will be Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP Joan Humble a
nd Mayor of Wyre, Coun Gordon McCann.

The launch begins at 1pm and the big day will include displays by the police, fire brigade and the Army as well as organised games and fundraising stalls.

The park, open from 9am to 9pm with a 7pm cut-off time for the all-weather pitch, will be run by volunteers, but the community association is also seeking funding to employ someone to oversee the area.

The project is regarded as special because most of the work involved was done by teenagers on the estate.

As part of the Community Change project, they worked with housing association Regenda and even presented their ideas before councillors at Wyre Civic Centre.

West View Community Association chairman, David Blower, said: "It is very exciting and the involvement of the young people has been one of the most heartening things."

The project was funded by money from from Regenda, the Russell Haldane Trust, Sita, Youthbank and Wyre Council.
