FLEETWOOD Lifeboat is ready for one of the biggest events in its history this weekend.
This Saturday's Lifeboat Day is not only a major fundraiser for this vital service, but also celebrates its 150th anniversary in Fleetwood.
The big event will not only raise funds, but will provide a whole day of fun and water displays for the publi
c.
Lifeboatman Dave Butler said: "We want to celebrate the milestone with the town of Fleetwood.
"Crew members and fundraisers have worked tirelessly to put together a day of fun and displays on the water to celebrate the 150th birthday of Fleetwood Lifeboat."
Now it is hoped the weather will play its part and that the Fleetwood public will offer their usual brilliant support.
The big day will start around 11am with all the stalls and shore-based fun being up and running.
The former Whitby lifeboat William Riley, which has been fully restored, will be on display in front of the lifeboat station.
The 100-year-old vessel has recently been a main attraction at Great Eccleston Show and Fleetwood Tram Sunday.
She has been restored to her former glory by volunteers in Whitby.
The shore fun will include a penalty shoot out competition, which this year has been organised by Fleetwood Town Under-10 Juniors.
The shootout will include a guest appearance from local footballing legend 'Captain Cod'.
Other events will include an Army assault course, wellie target throwing, bouncy castle and much much more.
At around noon the arrival of boats from flank stations Barrow, Morecambe, Blackpool and Lytham St Annes are expected.
This will include the new Tamar class lifeboat currently based at Barrow in Furness.
This will be followed by the mayoral launch and annual sailpast.
The civic guests will visit the station and take the opportunity to meet the volunteers of Fleetwood lifeboat.
The sailpast of elegant boats based in Fleetwood marina will commence at around 1pm.
The main water display, an epic rescue staged by the lifeboat volunteers, will follow the sailpast and will give the public plenty of opportunity to watch the crews in action.
