FLEETWOOD'S Lighthouse Post Office will cease operating next week.
The branch on North Albert Street was one of 2,500 earmarked for closure by the Government.
And on Monday at 1pm, the post office business will halt.
It will not be the end of stationary business at the premises, however. That trade will continue.
But in future, customers will need to use the main Fleetwood Post Office on Fisherman's Wa
lk, or other local branches in Fleetwood.
Tom Mulhall, the postmaster at Fleetwood Post Office, says his branch can cope with the extra customers.
He is bringing in two extra staff.
But some residents have raised fears that the branch is not big enough to cope with the extra footfall through the door.
In Fleetwood, Liberal Democrat activist Ken Palmerton said: "Pharos Ward has the highest density of old people in the country and those people rely heavily on the Lighthouse Post Office. It is all very short-sighted and will harm communities."
Also to close is the North Drive Post Office, on Victoria Road West, in Cleveleys.
The Government says the closures of around 2,500 branches is necessary because they are no longer financially viable, but critics say that is only because Whitehall has taken away much of the business that post offices used to be allowed to do.
