PLANS by food chain McDonalds to open their Fleetwood outlet until 2am on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays are being contested by a local councillor.
The McDonalds operation currently closes at 11pm each night but the company has applied to Wyre Council for the later opening and also a midnight finish on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The company believes there is a demand from cust
omers to keep the chain, close to the Freeport site, open longer.

Their application has already been approved by planners but now has to go before Wyre’s licensing committee in either June or July.

Coun Hamer, who lives on nearby Marina Mews, says the plans will make life unbearable for local residents.

He says he intends to fight the plans and has written to McDonalds and asked them to withdraw the application as a “social responsibility”..

The councillor said: “McDonalds don’t seem to realise the noise they create from people, cars and lorries.

“The litter that blows round the surrounding area is already bad. That the huge Freeport car park cannot be closed off until McDonalds shut their cafe and off-sales to visiting car owners will make things worse.

“Young car owners from all over our area have found that undisturbed they can have what they think as fun racing with tyres screeching, keeping children and adults awake.

“McDonalds can take it from me we will fight their disgraceful application tooth and nail. The bosses of McDonalds wouldn’t have it on their doorstep. Neither will we.”

A spokesman for McDonalds said the company was happy to comment on the issue but the statement was unavailable at the time of going to press.
