CHRISTMAS is coming early to Fleetwood - when a pub kicks off the festive season in a charity fundraiser on Saturday.
The Wyre Light, on London Street, is hosting the event in aid of local worthy causes.

Bosses at the pub anticipate it will be the earliest Christmas party on the Fylde coast, as tinsel, decorations and festive costumes adorn the venue, with the event taking place from 8.30pm to 2am.

Everyone is welcome to attend for Christmas fun in August!

The pub is a regular supporter of worthy causes, including children's charity the NSPCC.

In addition to its charity fundraising, the management have just announced they are sponsoring a local Sunday league football team, Skye FC, who play in Division 2B of the Blackpool and Fylde Sunday Football Alliance.

Wyre Light general manager Pete Rowland (pictured, left)and duty manager Darren Welsh (right) have organised the funding of a new strip for the club this week and are assisting with other running costs.

The club, which formed in 2003, was independent for several seasons, but has now formed an allegiance with the Wyre Light, which is also providing post-match refreshments.

The deal was first discussed when Skye FC held their end of season trophy presentation night at the Wyre Light, which laid on food for the team.

Manager of Skye FC Ali Martin said this week: "We are very grateful to Pete and Darren for all their help in funding the club and wish to thank them for their support."

The Sunday league season kicks off this Sunday and Skye FC will be playing at Blackpool Road North, St Annes, against Marshall Court FC.

The Wyre Light is looking at putting on live bands on Thursday nights in the near future.

On Fridays and Saturdays, there is entertainment provided by DJ Damo, with music from the '60s to the present day and it is open until 1am.

Contact the Wyre Light at 20 London Street, Fleetwood, on (01253) 877777.
