Chance to have your say over CCTV

FLEETWOOD residents will have the chance to air their views over plans to extend CCTV coverage in the town.
The special consultation event takes place at the North Euston Hotel, next Tuesday, August 5, from 7pm.
Representatives from the Wyre Community Safety Partnership and Lancashire Police will be available to answer residents questions about the proposals and provide information on planned locations for the new cameras in the resort.
Thirteen locations have been proposed for CCTV cameras in the town, replacing the three sites previously located in the town centre.
This will substantially increase the amount of available CCTV coverage in Fleetwood and will involve using more sophisticated surveillance technology.
Councillor Graeme Cocker, Wyre Borough Council's Living Safely Portfolio Holder said: "Community feedback is integral to the success of the overall CCTV scheme. The consultation events we are running in Fleetwood will enable us to find out if residents believe the cameras will make a positive difference to their quailty of life and provide greater reassurance for local people.
"We would urge residents to come along next Tuesday and have their say on the scheme.
Residents are being asked to have their say on the viability of each of these sites - and whether they think the scheme itself would make a difference to community safety.
As part of the consultation process, a three week exhibition was held at Fleetwood Library where residents could submit their views.
Young people in the town are also being asked for their views on the scheme through local consultation events at Fleetwood College and other venues.
In addition, residents currently have the chance to complete a questionnaire about the project online through a special section on Wyre Borough Council's website at www.wyrebc.gov.uk.
The upgrade to the existing three town centre cameras is a joint venture between Wyre Borough Council, Lancashire Police Authority and other partners, who are looking at securing additional funding towards the £100,000 target.
It follows successful schemes in Garstang, Poulton and Thornton Cleveleys where the installation of cameras in key areas has contributed to a reduction in crime and incidents of anti-social behaviour.
