THE National Association of Estate Agents has celebrated its first Commercial Initiative Award for success in a commercial venture – The Domestic Energy Assessor Qualification.
The event was held by the Trade Association Forum and the principal element of this award was to look at the cash flow derived from commercial schemes. However, the judges were also interested in entries with projects which contribute to the success
of the sector.

The NAEA was recognised for its contribution to the industry and how it has taken an industry problem – a lack of qualified assessors of domestic energy – and found a solution. As a result, the NAEA made surplus funds, which are being reinvested in member benefits.

The Government introduction of Home Information Packs made it clear to the NAEA that qualified domestic energy assessors would be necessary to meet a new European Union directive.

In response, the NAEA produced a cost-effective, time-saving and straightforward solution, which was a qualification for energy assessments.

This was proposed to the Government and accepted and endorsed by the Qualification and Curriculum Authority. Once approved by all relevant parties, 3,000 fee-paying candidates were recruited by the NAEA.

This qualification involves the candidate taking two electronic exams and producing five examples of energy assessments with the aim of qualifying in 12 weeks.
