Fleetwood Town have boosted their strikeforce after two games without a goal by signing veteran striker Lee Thorpe from League Two Darlington.
The 34-year-old, who has made over 350 League appearances for a dozen clubs, started his career as a trainee at Blackpool in 1994.

He made only a handful of Seasiders appearances in three seasons before moving on to Lincoln City.

The widely travelled frontman finished last season at Rochdale and linked up with the Quakers last summer.

His time at Bloomfield Road coincided with that of Town boss Micky Mellon, who said: "Lee will be involved with Saturday's game at Hinckley and I look forward to working with him. I'm looking for the same type of impact Alan Wright's experience brought to the group.

"This certainly is a very positive signing for the club. Lee has great experience. He will be able to help the younger strikers around him and bring the best out of them.

"This isn't an immediate reaction to not scoring in two games. Lee is the type of player we've been after for a while. He'll be a bit more aggressive and will get hold of the ball.

"I've known Lee since he was a youngster at Blackpool and I've seen him progress through his career. He's had a very good career with promotion campaigns under his belt."

Fellow Town striker Tom Cahill has been loaned out to Harrogate Town but will be ineligible to face Fleetwood when the sides meet in Blue Square North on March 20.

Town retain their five-point lead at the top after Southport's home match with Alfreton was postponed.
