FLEETWOOD trawlerman Phil Dell is hoping his love of painting can help light up the town - literally!
Phil, skipper and joint-owner of the trawler Artemis, has donated one of his works to the Fleetwood Festive Lights Committee.
And the oil painting, which depicts the trawler Zonia (FD236) will be one of the items being auctioned at the committee's next big fundraiser.
The event is their midsummer night's disco, which takes place at the Fleetwood Legion Sports and Social Club on Saturday June 21.
A host of other items, including a signed Fleetwood Town shirt, are being auctioned on the night, which gets underway at 7.30pm until late.
Phil isn't the first Fleetwood fisherman to take an interest in art - in some ways he is following in the brush strikes of the late Keith Sutton, whose paintings of trawlers practically became a pictorial record of Fleewood's fishing fleet.
Phil, 54, of Mowbray Road, said: "Keith was a much better painter than me, but I'm a better drawer!
"I've painted thousands of trawlers over the years but I never charge for them. it's enough for me that people want them, and I really enjoy it."
The fund-raising disco will also include food and great live entertainment.
Teenage musical talent Bex is lending her exciting new talent to the proceedings, and Elvis tribute performer Dave Stanfield is performing too. Live music will also come from the band Ruff Diamond.
The committee is hoping to beat last year's final fund-raising total of £16,000, which included £3,000 from Wyre Council.
Committee Chairman Ellen Bater said: "It might seem early to be fundraising, but we have to work all year round to make sure we can cover costs for the year ahead."
Fancy dress is optional for the disco and the £3 tickets can be
obtained on the door on the night, or by phoning (01253) 876931
