Praise for '˜polite' pupils at Our Lady following Ofsted inspection
Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School, in Common Edge Road, Marton, was told it continues to be ‘good’, after last being visited by Ofsted in 2012.
The education watchdog gave the school its second top rank, behind ‘outstanding’ and told headteacher Melanie Haggerty: “Since the last inspection, you have continued to develop your vision for pupils to be happy and develop a love of learning.

“You know the strengths of the school and have a clear understanding of what needs to improve further.”
Results in reading, writing, and maths are up, and the youngest pupils ‘get off to a good start’, inspector Ahmed Marikar said in his letter.
Pupils make ‘great ambassadors’, wearing their uniform with pride and acting with courtesy and politeness, Mr Marikar added, while parents are ‘very positive’ and governors ‘committed’.

To boost the school’s ranking to the top score, the number of year one pupils meeting the expected standard in phonics – a way of teaching children to read and write – should be increased, he added. There should also be a ‘continued focus’ on writing, and the brightest pupils should be given a ‘greater challenge’.
Nobody at the school [inset], could be reached for a comment yesterday. On its website, Miss Haggerty said: “Our Lady’s would aim to provide happy, secure and exciting learning opportunities.”
