“My family were immensely proud of me, especially since I will be the first person in my family to study at Cambridge
“My friends were also really excited for me.”
“I also really admire the history of economics at Cambridge and wanted to be a part of it.”
Mason said he had to read his acceptance email ‘several times’ to make sure that he had not misread it. He knew that applying to study medicine would not be easy as it is a very competitive field but said this simply motivated him to ‘push myself beyond what I thought I could achieve’.

“It was not all joy as it was really upsetting not being able to give my nan a hug on what was perhaps the best news I have ever gotten in my life!” he said.
“It felt amazing to be able to prove to them and myself that I can be ambitious enough to have made such a huge achievement,” she said.
Sophie hopes to carry out postgraduate research in forensic psychology and criminology following her studies.

“I am very grateful to have been in such good hands during my application.”
The three high-flying students were part of Blackpool Sixth’s ‘Excellence Programme’ which gives students access to a range of subject-based and extra-curricular activities.
Excellence Programme co-ordinator, Peter Wright, said: “We are delighted by the success of these three students and rightly proud of all of our students who are showing the determination to pursue their study and career goals.
