FLEETWOOD folk have one last chance to join a public debate over plans to close Rossall Hospital.
The issue is one of the items on the agenda at Fleetwood Town Council’s meeting on January 29.
It takes place at the North Euston Hotel from 7pm onwards.
The Blackpool Commissioning Group, Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking into moving those rehab services to St Annes’ Clifton Hospital.
If Rossall shuts, it would mean a long trip for people in Wyre and many residents in Fleetwood are unhappy about the proposals for that reason. The public consultation on the issue comes to an end on January 31, so time is running out for those who wish to have their say.
Next week’s meeting will be attended by representatives of the commissioning groups, who will address the room before taking some questions. The council session will also see the handing over of a petition opposing the end of rehab services at Rossall. It is thought the final number of names on the petition could reach 2,000.
Coun Bill Barrow, the Fleetwood town councillor with responsibility for health, said: “This is the final chance to join the debate in Fleetwood.
“What is clear from residents in Fleetwood, Cleveleys and Blackpool is that they are concerned about the journey to Lytham and the time it takes. It is essential that people’s concerns are taken on board. It is isn’t just about the Rossall building – many would be happy to see the services moved to Fleetwood Hospital, as long as it stays in the town.”
Outstanding petitions can either be handed to Coun Barrow on the night or taken to the Town Council office at 122 Poulton Road this week.
To have your say about the plans, fill-in forms are available at Fleetwood Library and GP practices.
Other items on the town council agenda include a talk by Roberta Austin, of training agency Blackpool Build-Up, about how matters are progressing with an 80-place training programme currently being run by gas firm Halite. There has been a good take-up of applicants for the scheme.
And the council will also choose a prospective councillor for the vacant Pharos ward seat after hearing from a number of candidates on the night.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting.
