Hopes for our town as new year begins

The Marine Hall Gardens in Fleetwood were officially opened in 2012. What will 2013 bring?

FLEETWOOD’s town leaders were hoping for a turn in the tide for Fleetwood as 2013 ticked in.

Signs that things are on the up for Fleetwood are already there.

There are plans for new jobs, brand new facilities for six primary schools will be completed and ideas to direct visitors to the tourist spots to bring out the best in the town are also being looked at.

Alan Marsh, Fleetwood Town Council chariman was keeping his fingers crossed that schemes to improve and enhance facilities for young people would come to fruition.

He said: “Ideas to bring a skate park to Fleetwood and improvements to the paddling pool area are very much needed and I hope things move ahead in 2013.

“We need to attract people into the area, particularly to our lovely new Marine Gardens.

“It would be fabulous to see a repeat of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations at some point in the year, lets use these facilities, encourage families to share the benefits.

“We also need to get provisions in place for tourists too and look at ways to give people a great day out in Fleetwood.”

Councillor Marsh is also keen to develop a plan to bring redundant soldiers and their families to Fleetwood and elsewhere along the Fylde coast.

“Hundreds of servicemen and women will be leaving the forces in 2013 and they will need jobs, homes and schools,” he said.

“They are skilled people who have been fighting and dying for our country and we need to give them their dignity.”

Wyre Mayor Coun Don Lawrenson said: “As 2012 closed, I was heartened to see that community spirit has not been dampened by the continuing difficult financial times that we all face and that the people of Wyre pull together during times of adversity.

“I look forward to what’s in store in the coming year with optimism and enthusiasm.

“On behalf of everyone at Wyre Council, I would like to wish the residents of Wyre a prosperous New Year.“
