RUNNING a marathon would be a big enough challenge for most folk...

But Fleetwood couple Charles and Angela Colby are preparing to do it all again – and then some!

The pair, who live on North Street, are preparing for a mammoth 88 mile trek – and they intend to run all the way.

They plan to complete a sponsored run from Fleetwood to Brathay – in Ambleside, Cumbria – and will then limber up for the Brathay Windermere Marathon.

They hope to complete the lot in just three sinew-testing days.

Charles and Angela are no strangers to running, of course.

They are marathon veterans and also turn out regularly for the Wesham Road Runners.

However, it is fair to say they have never before attempted such a daunting challenge.

And Charles, who will be 42 on Sunday, is also recovering from a leg injury.

Aside from relishing the physical and psychological test, the pair are also trying to raise money for a good cause which helps under-privileged youngsters.

Charles said: “It is a heck of a challenge but that’s why we’re doing it!

“We started training over Christmas and since then we have averaged five miles every weekday night, plus 10 miles on Saturday and 20 miles most Sundays.

“Despite my injury, affecting the illiotibia band behind my knee, I feel it is getting better and I’m OK.”

They ran the Brathay Marathon last year and it was then that they found out about the Brathay Trust, which helps struggling youngsters to become successful, confident and responsible citizens.

The Trust tries to help youths keep in education and apprenticeships and out of trouble. Charles is a greenkeeper at Fleetwood Golf Club and also has his own gardening business.

Angela, 42, is a machine operator at the Fishermen’s Friend factory on Copse Road. The couple will first run from Fleetwood to Carn
forth, staying there in a B&B. Then they will run from Carnforth to Brathay – before tackling the 26-mile marathon. To sponsor the pair visit www.justgiving.com/fleetwood-brathay-ultra.
