A shrine to artistic endeavour

Art worshippers are being called on to display their works in an unusual setting - The Shrine Chapel, near Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

As part of the annual Heritage Open Days’ scheme, the chapel will be opening its doors for what is set to be its biggest art display to date.

Artist and curator Ann Charlesworth hopes to ‘fill the pews with art’. She added: “This special temporary display is being organised specifically for the heritage weekend as I strongly believe that heritage and art go seamlessly together.”

“Having just finished helping organise the St Annes Art Festival, I feel it is important to continue to create as many opportunities as possible for local artists’ work to be displayed, and the Shrine definitely offers a unique temporary gallery.

“Art is surrounded by peeling paint, prominent gold mosaic columns, with the backdrop of an impressive altar. It is important to support any exhibition opportunities, whether big or small, as it is all about creating a sense of community.”

The Shrine is one of a host of venues hosting events for the weekend of Friday to Sunday, September 12 to 14, with the exhibition open from 11am to 3pm.
